Hilltop Craftsman – Stair vs. Window

A new stairwell added to access the second floor addition. The clear finished wood stairs and railings add a warm contrast to the other painted trim.

We left the existing stained glass window in its original location and let the stair’s wainscot and hand rail fit around the window.

Tudor Revival – Newel Post

This over-sized newel post with its finely detailed cap is the pivoting point for this new stairwell connecting a kitchen addition to a new family room on the lower level.

The stairwell is filled with daylight from top to bottom as the arch-top windows step down to follow the stair.

Sound View – Balcony

The half round balcony is the central focal point of this water side elevation. It is positioned directly above the round porch column below.

It is accessed from the moster bedroom where it offfers an 180 degree view of the water front.

Queen Anne Panorama – Upper Cabinet

Custom bamboo cabinets with panels of resin encased reeds. The edges of these materials added interest, so we designed the doors to display the bamboo laminations and the cut reed ends of the panels.

Concealed lighting inside the cabinet help to accentuate these details.

Sea Lane – Lattice

The lattice is set out at the edge of the porch to provide shade and filtered light.

Where the lattice is against the house, it becomes two dimensional ornament.

We designed the lattice pattern so that it could be cut from standard dimensional lumber and installed in a way to suggest a traditional woven lattice. The heavier 1” thick boards give it much better durability along the windy shoreline.

Redmond Shaker Style – Newel Post and Railing

Simple Shaker style detailing emphasizes the beauty of the materials which include clear, vertical grain fir and black walnut railings.

The meticulously finished wood is in visual and tactile contrast with the wrought iron railing.

Redmond Shaker Style – Wood Joinery

Timber framed beams up to 20 inches deep, are spliced together with over-scaled scarf joints and held with walnut pegs.

Roof truss components are tied with heavy steel tension rods and hardware.

LED uplighting accents tongue and groove ceiling planks.

Redmond Shaker Style – Cupola

The cupola brings daylight into the interior hallway and stairwell.

It is internally lit as a lantern feature at night.

The cupola weathervane is a wetland creature whose name is that of our client.
